What a Week!

A glorious week for me and my writing.

It started with an interview for the local
community paper. Happy Birthday to Whooo? was
extremely well received by the reporter. She and
I connected very well. We talked about my book,
the importance of early reading and sitting on a lap
to hear books, and the publishing world.

Then later in the day I received my first and only
advance copy of One Odd Day. Woohoo...just fabulous.
Karen Lee is the amazing artist.

And after that 4 cases of Happy Birthday to Whooo?
were delivered. I had been expecting them.

Now I have copies for gifts, promotion, selling and
extras for any needs that might arise.

Trotted down to B & N and saw my poster in the window
and being displayed in the store. Later this week, my
book will be put on an aisle diplay shelf for the world
to see.

I have five author events planned so far. Whew! This is
work and fun at the same time.

I hope all children's writers can feel the satisfaction of
holding a book they created. Without the writer the book
would have never existed. From brain to computer to paper
to publisher. Hurray!

I think I need a nap!

Awesome surprise!

Yesterday I learned the Barnes and Noble in my
area has put posters of my signing on it's outside
windows and by the mall area. I never expected
any kind of promotion quite like this.

It is so amazing to be a part of this whirlwind
of writing fun. My boxes of Happy Birthday
to Whooo? should arrive next week. Yippee!

Then I'll have ones to give, mail, and promotional
copies. I can't wait to hand the out and get the
ball rolling with a real "VISUAL" aid.

And an advance copy of One Odd Day is
expected by me any day. Wowzer.

Thursday, already!

Time flies when deadlines approach and
projects are due. Can't believe it's almost
the weekend.

I'm finishing my puzzles for an editor and now
need to wear my promotion hat for my book,
Happy Birthday to Whooo? which is now
in the USA and being shipped to booksellers
and preorders this week. And to me!
Hurray.

Postcards, copies, and notes to get ready to mail.
This will be so much fun.

I've arranged five author visits so far. Reading
and signing sounds mighty fine.

Organizational skills are really needed for
all the ideas and thoughts swimming through
my mind. It's a great feeling to be published,
hold the book, and show others.

I am blessed.

Monday, Monday

Today is another rainy day in the Houston area.
It sure beats the bright days of August with no
heat relief...but some areas of the city don't drain
well. So flooded highways are a Houston problem.

Trying to wrap up loose ends for various projects
and then start writing three picture books I've been
wanting to start for some time. This is the fun part.
Getting thoughts in order to tell a creative one of a kind
story loved by readers of all ages.

I hope the Muse is with me this week.

Signings and more

This week I've learned about signings, readings
and presentations. I didn't realize they all had
separate meanings for an author visit.

Once upon a time I thought an author did all three
actions for any appearance, but not so, Bubba!

Signings are autograph sessions. Readings are
an out loud reading of the book by its author.
Presentations are speaking engagements for the
author. The author may speak on the published book,
a particular subject dealing with writing, read
the book and even have an activity.

My favorite is a reading and a signing. What could
be better than sharing a book you loved to write with
eager listeners in a crowd?

Time for me to get ready for this week's critique
group where I hear other writers talk about the books
they are writing and love.

Promoting probs

It's never a dull moment in the writing world.
Getting published is just the beginnging, as
I've discovered.

My book launch date was made several months ago.
But my Barnes and Noble CRM is worried the books
will not be released as first indicated. This is
a bit puzzling and I sure hope we get books
for the date intended.

My husband is returning from a 10 day trip to
Alaska . Our son went, too.

After managing this house and all it entails
in 96 degree temps, I'm ready for his help.
What a great househusband. He has always chipped
in, but now I seem to be home less and he is
here more. That has worked out well.

Hoped the hurricanes all head out to sea and
not on land this year, but not so....poor FL.

Saturday Surprise!

More mail from Sylvan Dell!

I received 25 posters for Happy Birthday to Whooo?
and 25 for One Odd Day, being released in October.

They are huge, gorgeous and fantastic art.
Almost too pretty to share!

I hope to have a few more signings to add to my
one in July at Barnes and Noble. Working on that
right now.

Ear to Ear

It's here...my first published children's picture book!
Received an advance copy of Happy Birthday to Whooo?

Wonderful. I feel my writing is validated and am eager
to share this fine feeling. Something I created
in my head is actually on paper in a bound book.

Text, art, the dedication, and activities to enhance
the text can be picked up and held.

I hope every want-to-be-published book writer has
the same experience.

I'm grinning from ear to ear.
