Book Launch Day After

Yesterday the book launch for One Odd Day was
so much fun. Dani Sneed and I had about 20 folks
gathered 'round to listen as we read books.

Dani started with One Odd Day and then I read
Happy Birthday to Whooo? We enjoyed the kids,
their questions and enthusiasm.

It was a terrific day and Happy Birthday to Me!
Yesterday was my birthday, the same as the elephants
in Happy Birthday to Whooo?

In fact, many of the birthdays in the book are the
same dates as birthdays of my relatives when the
months and seasons for the animals' births coincided
with a relative.

Hope your weather is cooling down. It is still hot and
humid in Houston, but then, when isn't it hot and humid
in Houston?

Middle of September

Wow- middle of September already.

Dani Sneed and I submitted My Half Day to Sylvan Dell this week.
Donna German, the editor, emailed she loved it. We hope that means
our third math book will be accepted and published by Sylvan Dell.

One week to go until the book launch for One Odd Day and Happy
Birthday to Whooo? will be available. The event is on my birthday.
How much fun! And my son will be coming home and visiting for
my special day.

I seem to be having more positive response about my books and handling
inquires and emails seems to have taken over my writing time. I'll have
to be sure to prioritize since I have more picture books in my head to
write and submit.

Cooler weather came to Houston early this year. Often I'm waitng for
80 degree temps in October after September was in the 90s every day.
So nice for a change. We get to wear dark cool clothes instead of
of light colored cool clothes!

Happy weekend.

School signings

With the start of school, signings seem to take on
more meaning for librarians and bookstores. At least that's
true for my educational picture books.

While this side of publishing is all new to me, I hope to
really enjoy the children and the fun of entertaining them.
So far I've had two thank-yous for books. One was written by
two... a brother and sister. They even drew a few pictures for
me. It is just darling and was so totally unexpected.

I have a book launch for One Odd Day in three weeks and the
first week of October is full of reading and signing fun.
There's something about all eyes on me that makes me aware
the kids are really listening and I need to tell them something
exciting, unique, humorous or just something stupid
enough to make them laugh.

On top of that, the Houston area weather seems to be cooler
the first of September than I can ever remember after living
here for 22 years. Hurray!

With my deadlines over, as I had mentioned earlier, now it's
time for more writing duties. My list includes mailing
book launch postcards, submitting other books that are needing
a publishing home, mailing books to a few relatives, contacting
another Barnes and Noble, making one more flyer for my fitness
club to advertise my book launch and make a new calendar
for our critique group meetings.

So, I have plenty to do and it all sounds mighty fine.
Oh yeah! I have three books in my brain that I hope to get
into the computer soon. I need BIC.

Ciao,
Doris

Deadlines Done!

It's September 1 and all my deadlines have been met!

Never expected three writing assignments to pop up.
One in May, one June and one in July.

It does keep one on one's toes and gets the writing
and typing accomplished. I bet I should set deadlines
for all of my writing duties...submitting, writing,
critique group submissions and promotion ideas.

Have a safe and labor-free Labor Day Holiday!
